Coco joins Kingdom Hearts IV

The D23 trailer gave Pixar's Coco the full Kingdom Hearts treatment: Sora steps into the Land of the Dead wearing calaca face paint, swinging a marigold-bright keyblade shaped like a sugar-skull guitar.

Coco becomes the newest Pixar world in the series, following Toy Box, Monstropolis and San Fransokyo, and easily the most stylized yet: ofrendas, papel picado and mariachi flourishes translated straight into the trailer's combat and platforming. The extended cut also shows Donald and Goofy arriving with their own designs for the world, while King Mickey hunts the Land of the Dead for clues to Sora's whereabouts.

Disney also dated Coco 2 for November 2029 at the same expo, so Sora may not be done with this world when Kingdom Hearts IV ships. Nomura himself told the panel that Coco was picked for how tightly a world can weave into Sora's main story — this one clearly passed the test.
