Kingdom Hearts IV launches late 2027

Three years of near-silence ended at D23: Square Enix put Kingdom Hearts IV on the calendar with a late 2027 release window, announced at the "Deep Dive into Kingdom Hearts" panel alongside the game's first proper trailer since its 2022 reveal.

The trailer tours Quadratum, the realistic, Tokyo-flavored city Sora wakes up in, and longtime fans were quick to name the new faces: Luxord, one of the few remaining Organization XIII diehards, Strelitzia stepping in from Union χ, and the masked Vali, reconfirmed straight out of Dark Road. Riku reaches Quadratum too, backing Sora up alongside fellow wielder Sigurd against swarming Heartless.

The boldest swing is Young Xehanort, showing up in the flesh: he silently shields Sora from wind and rain under an umbrella — a nod to Nomura's anniversary artwork — while a cloaked figure implied to be Luxu stops by for a word. A voice like Kairi's closes the trailer, begging Sora to wake up.

What we know about the launch

Kingdom Hearts IV is confirmed for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC (Steam and Epic Games Store), day-and-date everywhere. The extended cut makes Mickey, Donald and Goofy playable as they hunt for clues: Mickey leafing through a storybook Scala ad Caelum, Donald and Goofy braving the Underworld. It is the first all-new mainline entry since Kingdom Hearts III in 2019.

A late 2027 window lands roughly six years after the April 2022 announcement, and finally gives the series a concrete horizon. Co-producer Tai Yasue told the panel to expect it then, promising absolutely no delays.
